WHAT IS KOLA?

In many West African traditions, the kola nut is offered in ceremony as a gesture of respect, gratitude, and relational exchange.

Kola is brought when entering sacred space. Kola is brought when receiving wisdom, guidance, or medicine. Kola acknowledges that what is being given carries lineage and labor.

To bring kola is to participate in reciprocity.

Within DamaSoul offerings, Kola may take the form of a financial contribution, a meaningful gift, or another sincere expression of support. It is given freely and with intention, honoring the value of the exchange and the ancestral stream from which the work flows.

Kola sustains the relationship between giver and receiver. Kola keeps the circle balanced.

"Indigenous people do not see themselves as separate from their Ancestors. They are the roots, we are the branches."

Elder Malidoma Patrice Somé
